The “spite” wall at Morgan State University has been torn down. The brick wall at the old Northwood Plaza shopping center represents a sad chapter in the history of Morgan State. It once segregated Black and white communities. President of Morgan State, David Wilson, was happy to see it crumble. “In 1939, the neighbors started building what was labeled a “spite” wall, a hate wall, to prevent Morgan State students from simply walking across the street into the all-white neighborhood and to shop at an all-white shopping center here,” Wilson said.
