The World Health Organization said the omicron variant of Covid-19 may change the course of the pandemic. The global health agency said early data indicates that Omicron may have a higher risk of reinfection. WHO called on countries to vaccinate & keep measures in place to protect people from infection. It, however, added that the disease will be milder than what the Delta variant led to. “Emerging data from South Africa suggests increased risk of reinfection with Omicron, but more data are needed to draw firmer conclusions. There is also some evidence that Omicron causes milder disease than Delta, but again, it’s still too early to be definitive,” WHO Chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said. The new Covid variant, Omicron, was first found in South Africa in the last week of November. It has now spread to around 57 countries but no death has been linked to this variant so far.
