I do not own any rights to this song. All credits go to the artist Queen and was downloaded through iTunes. When coming up with an idea for a music video it was not very hard. Being a senior at The University of Kansas, I wanted to incorporate something that has meant a lot to me during my time at school. The one thing that has truly impacted my experience is my friends. Narrowing down my song choices I wanted to dive deeper into my time at KU and think upon other aspects of college that have been significant in my life. I spend most of my days and nights working at The Wagon Wheel where all the music played is 30 plus years old. I bet you could guess Queen is on repeat there often. That is where I got my inspiration to choose the song “You’re My Best Friend” by Queen. It came on the juke box when I was working one lunch shift and I knew that it would be perfect for my project. The song begins with the lyrics, “Ooh, you make me live. Whatever this world can give to me. It’s you you’re all I see.” During dark times in my life, my friends have been there to help push me through it. If I did not have their support I would not be where I am today. College is a time where you sincerely find yourself and allow yourself to grow into a person you want to be. Being surrounded by friends that share the same morals and goals has allowed me to be my best true self. Finding friends that understand you more than you do is a blessing.
This music video is a collage of all the happiest moments I’ve shared with my friends and a video I will be happy to save into my time capsule. This is a video I can go back on to reflect on my college years. I chose to use black and white in the videos to give a sense of drama. This video is an obituary of my memories and the colors black and white are used to describe an ending. The collage of videos provides a theme of happy and sad at the same time. A time that is coming to an end but reflecting on the happiest moments. Many of the footage I took were at times when my friends and I were singing and dancing. I think this represents us at our peaks and a way to depict our friendship. I try to bring different clips from my favorite memories such as the Chiefs winning the Superbowl, living in my sorority house, concerts or simply enjoying each other’s company. These past couple weeks I have been trying to take videos when there is a funny moment or if we are having a dance party before we go out for the night. I chose to end on the clip of my friends and I lifting my friend to “crowd surf”. I wanted to add some humor behind the theme of the music video. We’re all “surfing” out of college.
